Feet are often a neglected part of our bodies even though they take us everywhere we go. Did you know that our feet are comprised of 26 bones and many, many small ligaments, tendons and muscles? It is because we have all of these joints in our feet, that we can adjust our stance by miniscule amounts, quickly correct a misstep or avert a fall.
Just like our back, neck and shoulders, our feet need attention and TLC too!
Here’s a quick self-care you can do for your feet to honor their work.
• Sit squarely on a chair
• Place a ball on the floor (golf ball or tennis ball – depending on the depth you want).
• Place your foot over the ball and roll it back and forth. You can vary pressures, but always make sure there is no pain - it should feel good.
• (note: the smaller the surface area of the ball, the deeper the pressure will be felt)
• Roll the ball around for 3-5 minutes – this increases circulation and passively stretches the bottom surface of the foot.
Have more than a short moment for self-care for your feet?
• To enhance your foot massage, give your feet a warm water soak
• Fill a shallow bucket with warm (not hot) water and ½ to 1 cup of Epsom salt
• Place your feet in the bucket and soak them for 15-20 minutes
• When finished, be sure to fully dry your feet before beginning the ball self-care (see above instructions).
Enjoy your treatment – your feet will thank you!
