"Strength that has effort in it is not what you need. You need the strength that is the result of ease"
– Ida Rolf
Before an acupuncture treatment, you will fill out an extensive Health History Form and participate in a conversation about your health concerns with your therapist.
The practitioner will take your pulse and possibly palpate your abdomen, look at your tongue and ears. Acupuncture needles are inserted in appropriate areas of your body along the meridians to clear the energy blockages and restore and promote healing. Often treatment will include the use of moxibustion – a small amount of moxa, an herb from the Mugwart family, is burned on points to help stimulate the healing process. Occasionally, clients describe sensations such as tingling, warmth, heaviness, or a feeling of Qi moving. Many people fall asleep during treatment.
After treatment, most people feel relaxed and centered. Some have dramatic results after their first treatment and feel partial or total relief from symptoms. The relief can last for several hours or days. It is important to stay in touch with your practitioner if symptoms recur. This will help to determine the treatment plan and strategy for your condition. Chronic conditions often take more frequent treatments to resolve than acute issues.
